Légère Introduces New Signature Double Reeds
Légère Reeds is pleased to announce the launch of two new additions to its growing double reed range: the Signature European Scrape Oboe Reed and Signature Bassoon Reed - developed to provide professional and advancing musicians with the authentic sound and response of cane, combined with the consistency and reliability of synthetic reed technology.
Designed through more than a decade of player feedback and advanced manufacturing innovation, both reeds represent a significant step forward in synthetic double reed performance. Delivering exceptional tonal quality, stable pitch, and dependable response, they offer a practical and long-lasting alternative to traditional cane reeds for orchestral, chamber, solo, and educational settings.
The new Légère Signature European Scrape Oboe Reed is crafted using the short scrape profile favoured by oboists throughout Europe and much of the world beyond North America. It produces the darker, fuller sound associated with the European oboe tradition, while offering stable intonation across all registers, including the upper octave. A refined blade profile provides even response from pianissimo to fortissimo, allowing players to shape phrases freely without fighting resistance. Available in Medium-Soft, Medium, and Medium-Hard strengths.
The Légère Signature Bassoon Reed has been developed to deliver the rich, focused tone bassoonists expect, alongside the dependability that synthetic reeds can provide. Featuring a refined blade profile and expanded throat geometry, the reed offers excellent response throughout the instrument’s range, from a centred low register to a stable tenor register. It accepts the volume of air professional players demand while maintaining impressive dynamic control and tonal consistency. Available in Medium-Soft, Medium, and Medium-Hard strengths, including Légère’s first-ever Medium-Soft Bassoon Reed.

Both reeds are manufactured using Légère’s advanced synthetic material and precision CNC production techniques. Developed using proprietary scanning technology capable of analysing reed geometry to 0.25 microns, the reeds replicate many of the characteristics found in the finest handmade cane reeds while eliminating many of their common frustrations.
Ready to play straight from the box, neither reed requires soaking, adjustment, or a break-in period. Unaffected by changes in humidity and temperature, they provide consistent performance in every rehearsal room, concert hall, and touring environment. A single reed can last for months of regular playing, offering exceptional value alongside dependable performance.
The launch of the Signature European Scrape Oboe Reed and Signature Bassoon Reed further demonstrates Légère’s commitment to combining advanced material science with traditional reed-making expertise, creating products that help musicians spend less time managing reeds and more time making music.
Légère Signature European Scrape Oboe Reeds and Signature Bassoon Reeds are available now exclusively through UK & Ireland distributors Barnes & Mullins.
